The party continued their explorations of the new dungeon. In one room, they heard what sounded like a cacophony of whispers, almost inaudible. They seemed to be voices pleading for release, warning of grave danger, hinting at vast treasures, and the like. The eeriness was too much for Aldeberon and Dimbul, who fled the room, though the former did overcome his fear. A secret door led the party to what seemed to be an ancient study; detect magic revealed a magical quill as well as an old spellbook.
Not far form this room, the party (with Dimbul again) ran into a group of wraiths.
Opening any of the four doors in this room will “release” what appears to be slightly visible spirits. Those opening the doors must save versus spells or flee for a round and will require a successful save to reenter the room. Sir Rowan and ZZ each managed to turn two of them, and the party was able to plunder their lair with impunity. Aside from the treasures, the party found a non-magic scroll atop a platform clearly designed to hold a man-sized prisoner; the scroll was instructions on some sort of foul necromantic sorcery. A little while after departing the room, the party ran into two of them, but Sir Rowan drove them off once again.
The party was weary now, and opted to depart the dungeon and return to the dwarf city. There, they divided their recent treasures and did other sundry activities. ZZ took the opportunity the following day to speak with dead with the dead creature they'd found held by the trolls (and unfortunately slain by Cadwallider's lightning bolt). They asked who it was (Pathis) and what is was doing to be captured by the trolls (it was trying to steal form them). After a day more, two more questions followed: what specifically was it trying to steal (anything it could get!) and where the troll treasure was hidden (the party already had it).
The party also showed the Wight scroll to a senior Dwarf cleric, who merely called it "foul human magic" and urged them to burn it, which the party did. Later, Nali paid a visit to the party, telling them he might soon have a mission for them to perform. He was vague on particulars but told them it would be rather dangerous and strictly unofficial as far as the Dwarf Kingdom was concerned. Sir Rowan was rather insistent on high pay.
Iban took some time to also scry. First, he looked in on the Duergar they'd last encountered, and found them in a dark but very busy tavern. There were numerous creatures similar to the one the party had inadvertently slain there, as well. He also scried on Winfrith, who was in a town (probably Four Friths, the party surmised) and, on Cadwallider's recommendation, he scried on the Ogre Mage that had betrayed them some months past. That one was seated atop what appeared to be a throne, somewhere underground, attended by a few Bugbears and Orcs.
