Trapped like rats in the crypt with an unknown number of undead and who knew what else out in the magic fog, the party opted to use a wall of fire once more, this time with Hans on it so he could not be tripped up by the icy tendrils from the ground once again. This seemed to work well, and the party was able to pass through the graveyard without anything bad happening to them. They did “see” a very tall, shadowy figure momentarily in the fire-lit fog.
When they’d cleared the graveyard and passed a ways down another rough tunnel, the fog ended abruptly. The party passed a little further then Hans dropped the fire wall – and the party was promptly attacked by a half dozen Ice Toads. Though dangerous and exuding an intense cold, they were cut down in fairly short order. Their nearby cave had naught of value, unfortunately.
The party now came to a great cavern with an ice-rimed stream flowing swiftly through it. Sirius cast invisibility on Deaglan who now scouted ahead a bit and the party turned southeast. After a time, they came to the end of the river cavern at an ice-edged pool. They explored around the area a bit but were wary of the pool. Across the stream a flock of weird black and white birds appeared (penguins), ambling about to no seeming purpose. No one in the party was inclined to get close to them, so they decided to leave. But Sirius, Mordecai, and Dane said no, they wished to stay. Now this caused the party some consternation. Clearly something was going on here, though there was no other indication of trouble. Finally, the three said that they would leave and the party continued on.
They decided to cross the stream by a running broad jump and did so easily enough. Across the way they found a narrow cave open into a much larger one, this containing an immensely large humanoid skeleton, maybe of a 70 foot tall individual. There was no gear or other indications who or what it was, though it was clear such a person could have never entered the small cave they’d just used themselves. Confused and befuddled a bit, they proceeded on.
Given the narrow entrance, the party decided to camp in the skeleton cave. They had just settled in when a weird, dark cloud of blowing snow and ice rolled into them. It was quite powerful and rolled over the party, hitting them both with intense cold and cutting ice crystals. Those within its large are were affected, and could sense a sinister and hostile malevolence form the thing. But it proved to be mortal enough and was soon slain.
Later that night, the party was visited by another strange creature. A very tall female figure (7’ tall or more) with bluish skin and long silver hair strolled into the cave, seemingly quite nonchalant about the party’s presence. She named herself Bridgit and referred multiple times to her father, apparently the Ice Wizard. She seemed almost bored though she did tell the party that no doubt they’d be dead soon enough once father learned they were about. The party tried to misdirect her a bit with talk about not being “that” party but she soon grew bored with the chat and the party allowed to her to leave without incident.
