The party continued their explorations of the dungeons beneath Castle Gold where they were set on by seven large spiders. These were easily dispatched, some thanks to a lightning bolt by Hans. They soon came to a large room with an odd shape, with numerous holes in the north and south walls. ZZ cast find traps and determined the entire room was a huge trap. Given its size, it would not be possible to use some of their detection abilities without entering, so the party left and returned to exploring the south.
At the top of a descending staircase they found a weird, green rune of unknown provenance that emanated a sense of menace. As it was (shocking) a trap, the party opted to stay well clear and then send an unseen servant conjured by Burt to trip it. This it did with an explosion of green fire and a whoosh. Beyond was a door. Assuming that a wizard of some sort dwelt beyond, the party held a longish discussion on actions to take. Finally, ZZ first cast an augury to determine if they should cast a minor globe of invulnerability (yes was the answer). This Hans did, followed by ZZ casting silence on a coin. The door was forced revealing a room seemingly unoccupied. But, moments later, a previously invisible Serpentman appeared and threw a spell at the party, without effect. ZZ threw the silenced coin to prevent further spells and the party rushed the creature. It fought back with a strange serpentine staff, though, without spells and badly outnumbered, it was soon slain. Before his detect traps expired, ZZ determined that a stone chest in the room was indeed trapped by magic. He used dispel magic (twice, as the first failed) to disarm it, revealing a sizable treasure. In examining the contents (which included a book ZZ refused to touch). IN the process, Hans poisoned by a potion but ZZ was able to neutralize it.
The party continued exploring, and nearby Bel sensed a secret door. Within what was clearly a very long forgotten treasury. The wooden chests were badly decayed, though the Imperial Lormyrrian crest was still visible on both of them (Black eagle on a green field, BTW). One contained silver and copper coin. The other held a wand, a longsword with runes naming it Trollsbane, and a curious suit of chainmail made entirely of glass that tinkled with a faint music. Pleased, the party opted rest here, passing the night uneventfully.
Next day, the party explored to the east, where they ran into a group of four gruff men with spears and a herd of great boars. The men proved to be very inhospitable, and a melee ensued. Hans managed to cast slow on many of them while Bell and Jarrik held a doorway. Atticus changed into a mountain and leaped over the melee and into the fight, as well. However, he quickly found that his wounds on the men seemed to heal in an instant (they later proved to be wereboars). Sadly, they had almost no loot (a few pieces of nice ivory were it). They continued their explorations…
