The party had been camped and resting for not much more than an hour or so when they were attacked form the east. A trio of Trolls had come upon them. Mordecai and Jarrik, on watch, were not surprised by them, fortunately, and were able to leap to the party’s defense, as the others awoke and armed themselves; Atticus turned into a two-headed snake. The trolls proved rather difficult to kill, and even more difficult to keep them killed, until Burt used his wand of fire to incinerate them with burning hands. Late in their rest, the party was set upon from the other direction by a band of ghouls, that walked into Mordecai’s glyph of warding, which blew most of them to pieces. The two survivors were easily cut down before they could escape.
The party now made their way back to the area of the booming voices, which were still arguing on endlessly. Bel went in alone to scout in the darkness but could see nothing, though she was in the midst of the voices. The rest of the party now came forward with lights, revealing five foot tall stone faces, seven to either wall east and west. They did not seem to pay attention to the party, though presumably their debate about the “free moving” referred to them. However, when they passed the middle one on the west side, it grew angry and said “get out of my way, wet bags!”
Further on, the party came to a stoutly barred shut that Burt had some difficulty opening. Finally he succeeded, only for the party to be hit by a cone of cold from one of two Ogre Mage beyond; the other tried to charm person Burt, who shrugged it off. Hans fell from the blast as the others rushed to attack. Most piled on to the western of the two while ZZ hasted himself and took the other. Fortunately, they were unable to get any more spells off and were soon slain; ZZ urged them to burn the bodies, which the party did. The party found a modest treasure in a locked chest (with a poison needle lock set off by Burt’s unseen servant). With Hans slain, Burt took up the Bone Dice of Herekai and decided to try dicing for Hans’ return. A hooded avatar of death appeared and the game began, which Burt handily won. Hans was restored to them. Deciding this room was as good as any, the party restored the damaged bar to the door as best they could and passed an uninterrupted night of sleep.
The next day, they headed west, finding what appeared to be a paladin under an enchanted sleep. They tried various means, obvious and weird, to try to awake him, but without success. They turned north and soon came to a noisy room containing a group of skeletons engaged in a raucous dice game. It turned out they were rank and file soldiers that had come with the adventurers to kill Gold 80 years or so ago. The adventurers were wiped out and the soldiers captured. In punishment, they were slain and raised with their souls trapped in their skeletal remains, cured to be stuck in this room for eternity. Being soldiers, they decided to entertain themselves with dice they made from a few of their finger bones, playing endlessly for bits of trash they acquired over the years. The party offered to blast them back to death, which turned into a final game where the loser of each round of the game was blasted by Mordecai until but one remained. He seemed a little sad to go but was certainly not staying here by himself forever! A sad but fitting end.
The party moved on, coming to large room with another skeleton, this one wearing very elaborate copper armor with scales like a dragon and a huge fire opal in one eye socket. They removed the armor without issue but, when they took the gem, it animated and attacked. It resisted turning but was soon enough cut down, though Burt did hit Bel in the battle! Jarrik helped himself to the copper dragon platemail and the party prepared to move on…
