The party arrived in Kazakh City, after a long journey, ready to deposit their latest pile of wealth in the safety of the city. The party contracted to have a suit of magic leather armor resized for the halfling, and Iban scried the brigand leader, Fasanorn (he was in a castle talking to other folk who looked like bandits, as well). He also scried the Ranger Winfrith, finding him in an unknown tavern. The next day, Floi showed up bearing a gift of elaborate gold necklaces. He said they were to honor there many adventures together. Ever suspicious, ZZ cast an Augury to test the safety of them and the result was rather vague. Not liking that, Knar cast detect magic and found that they enchanted in some manner. Bel (or was it Beldon...my notes are a bit illegible here!) tried one on nonetheless. Her/his neck felt a burning pain, which left a mark exactly like Iban and ZZ still retain (a ring of interlocked diamonds). This was accompanied by a cackling, evil voice that said the wearer was no marked as a thrall forever. An identify spell on the necklace revealed absolutely nothing. Floi was nonplussed by all this, both angry and distraught. He led the party to the goldsmith where he purchased them. The Dwarf, when confronted with the presence of the charm, he simply said he "puts a charm on everything he makes!" When he realized what was going on, he proved to be quite put out, as well. He had nothing to do with it, he cried, and the party seemed to believe him. The party now returned to their quarters, seeing yet again the wizened old dwarf image that laughed at them but, when approached, simply vanished.
Back in their quarters, the party was met by Nali, with whom they exchanged an update of recent events. Among other things, Nali confided in them that the tunnel to the dungeons nearby had been ordered collapsed by his father, Fror, Lord of the City. However, he had disobeyed the spirit of that order and left the secret entrance to the place intact. The next day, the party made their way thither, passing through Zagash and into the Eburnean Vaults. They sneaked past the level of the Torture Cult and eventually made their way to Astraharsis. She was as they'd last seen her, quietly hiding out from unknown dangers in the depths of the dungeon. She had little enough to tell them, though she seemed happy to have friendly visitors. From their, did some idle exploring nearby, running into a party of wererats. Two were slain and the rest fled. From there, the party headed to the Dark Market...
