While camped in the hidden stairway, Iban took the opportunity to scry Girion and saw him asleep in a crude building, likely in the village of Tolit where the party had sent them. Taking this as a good sign that the freed prisoners were safe (for the time being), he cast invisibility on all in the party and recommenced their explorations of the dungeon area. Unfortunately, the party had some significant difficulties opening a particular door. When it finally gave way, the party found some wererats investigating the noise. Iban and Amadin were able to cast sleep to take care of both before they could raise an alarm.
The party explored down a long, wide passage, eventually coming to a room with several Wights. Two were slain and two turned. Nearby, the party discovered a temple to some ratman god. Beyond they encountered two wererat priests. One was able to cast a flame strike that slew several in the party. But, the rat priests were no match for the party and soon slain. By good fortune, the party discovered two large treasures in the vicinity, including several magical items and a pile of very valuable gems. This area seemed to be a dead end, so the party retraced their steps, only to run into a few wererats. This time, one managed to run off to raise the alarm. Te party pursued, coming up stairs to a higher level, but they lost the fleeing wererat. So, they continued to explore, soon encountering several spiders, which they slew, though both Floi and Bel were poisoned by them. Iban came up with some absurd plan to hide in the webs, using some to control the dead spiders like puppets, but he was outvoted on that.
Exploring onward, the party sensed that the enemy was aroused and that they were not in the greatest condition. This proved to be accurate. First, the party fell into battle with a large force of Hobgoblins. Although these were soon dealt with, the noise brought far worse -- Ogre Magi and a Fire Giant. The former blasted the party with a cone of cold. That was enough for Cadwaladyr, who used the wish ring he'd recently acquired to wish the entire party safely back to the village of Tolit.
Back in the village, the party warned the locals that it was likely that the lycanthropes and their fellows would soon turn this way. The villagers were disinclined to flee, some positing out that there was nowhere to go and that wolves could easily overtake them in the wilderness. Still, it seemed as if the fight with the enemy forces was only postponed...
