The party descended stairs into what appeared to be a fairly ordinary dungeon area, though it was filled with piles of trash and garbage that smelled terrible and made movement somewhat treacherous. In one room they found some graffiti in dried blood that read "How have I fallen into this hell of damned souls?" The party concurred with the sentiment, especially when they were attacked by dozens of Giant Rats in the next large room they entered. The rats were quickly vanquished with only minor injuries.
Continuing to wade through the trash, ZZ decided to try his Earth Dragon ring to detect metals and minerals. He got a detection to the east (though this was a convention as the party had NO sense of direction in any place within the chaos temple). moving that way, they were attacked again, this time by weird, foot-high humanoids with large luminous eyes and a ridiculous variety of skin and fur types. The creatures were quite numerous but proved relatively easy to kill...until they began to pop back up and attack, even as the life drained from their eyes. Worse, when Cadwallider tried to cast magic missiles, the individual missiles flew wild, one even striking Iban. But the sheer number of foes proved to be the deadliest danger, as they slowly clawed and bit the party into a dangerous position. Meanwhile, a few of the creatures standing outside the fray began to merge into one another, forming a larger creature that tried to throw a spell of some sort at Cadwallider. The wizard flew to attack this one, and soon battered it hard enough it fell back into the constituent creatures, which he was eventually able to dispatch.
Finally, the tide turned, though not without Dimbul and Mordecai being sore wounded, and ZZ bad off as well. The party now felt they needed to find somewhere to hole up and rest. Iban cast invisibility 10' radius but instead of invisibility, it caused the party to glow with faery fire. Fortunately, Cadwallider thought to slap Iban and the glow vanished, and soon everyone had done the same. ZZ tried his ring once more and found nothing, though he thought it should've worked; a third try a short time later led the party to a single gem an magic quarterstaff.
But, even better, a search for secret doors revealed one that led to a clearly unvisited room with three chests. All were trapped and Dimbul managed to disarm two of three; the other spewed poison gas into the room but the party was unhurt. Within the chests was a great fortune in coins, a wand of wonder, a potion, and a deck of cards. Seeing as the room was clearly free of trash and had not been entered in a very long time, the party rested here for around a half day (using about one man-week of their food). unfortunately, they discovered that the clerics could not contact their gods and thus could not recover any spells above 2nd level; for wizards, they could recover only 4th level or lower spells.
The next "day" the party exited the trash area and came into what appeared to be a vast, tall inner courtyard or cathedral. There was a good deal of training gear for soldiers but no one present, so the party (all now invisible again) yelled out. Several human soldiers came out of a few barracks rooms and there was a brief parley. They proved unfriendly so the party left and returned to the trash halls. Here they found signs that many more of the tiny humanoids were about, and soon they were clearly hunting for the party they knew was near. Fortunately, the party managed to avoid another pitched battle and fled back up the stairs they'd first descended. Back in the cube room with six planes of gravity, they did not wish to come under bow fire again so they quickly went through the most easily accessible door in the floor and came out into yet a new area.
The new area was apparently the interior of a building, with rich dark wood throughout and a long, winding hall running perpendicular to the entrance with many, many doors. The first few they opened proved to be empty quarters of some sort, long disused, but one opened into a large and well-stocked wine cellar. Iban filled his skin with a bottle and the party continued trying doors. Finally, they came to a room with two weird humanoid creatures. There was a brief parley but then ZZ slew one and the other was captured. They were Monks, it claimed, of the Brotherhood of Freedom. Cadwallider tried to ESP him but it failed to function properly and he could make no sense of what he received. The monk clearly was in no mood to die so he answered the party's questions on how to get away from the monastery. He did tell them that he got their via the central cloister, which he also said was a way out (though later admitted it led to Limbo).
After binding and gagging the monk, the party found the door he spoke of and found themselves in a weird, metallic sphere of great size (600' diameter). They were at the bottom and rolling around it was a 20' high round metal ball. Five further doors could be seen evenly spaced out. Iban tried to levitate but only reached mid sphere and could not go in any other direction. But, when one walked, they always felt as if they were at the bottom of the sphere, and this way the party was able to make their way to one of the other doors.
Beyond, they found themselves in the six-way gravity cube room. They quickly left this one again, but first tried chalking the doors to mark their way. They now came out into a small room with no other exits, but quickly found a secret door. This led to a room with a staircase going up in one direction, and one going down 90-degrees perpendicular to it. They decided to go up, and ended up going up a very long way, in a square, eventually ending up in the room they initially came from. There was a door in this room they now took, and found themselves in a oddly shaped room filled with warm, smoky air. Exploring, they soon found a great forge room where a trio of Dwarves were at work. They proved hostile at the interruption and attacked. They were very strong but, worse, as the fighting began a fourth Dwarf appeared followed by a Salamander and a Fire Giant. The party fled, unpursued...
